The first feature-length film by the director of Ladykillers and The Maggie, Whisky Galore is an intoxicating comedy from Ealing Studios and was made in the same year as Kind Hearts and Coronets. The film takes us to a small Scottish island at the height of the Second World War during a major whiskey shortage. When an English freighter containing a cargo of whiskey runs ashore and starts to sink, the island’s inhabitants set about thwarting the security around the ship in order to make off with as much whiskey as possible.
