American actress Meryl Streep steps into the sensible shoes and pearl necklace of Margaret Thatcher, and succeeds in pulling off an incredibly convincing performance. This Franco-British co-production mainly focuses on the early years of the Iron Lady’s political career. In 1982, having faced two years of growing unpopularity, the Iron Lady decided to send British troops to defend the colony of the Falkland Islands. Her image in the eyes of the British people was metamorphosed overnight. This is the story of her rise to glory, which sparked off a long and difficult period for many British people, as portrayed in numerous films, by Ken Loach among others.
