Roman Polanski signe ici une superbe adaptation d’un grand classique de Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d’Urbervilles publié en 1891.

In Victorian England, a farmer, John Durbeyfield, believes he is the heir of an aristocratic family and sends his daughter, Tess, to these improbable relatives in an attempt to “claim kin”. Thus begins the tragic tale of Tess, a young and innocent woman dishonoured by a cynical man. She then falls in love with a man too cowardly to drop everything in order to live with her and finds herself held captive by social conventions and class. Roman Polanski’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s great classic, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, published in 1891, is simply superb.
