Set in Victorian England, Jane Eyre, an orphan, is brought up by her aunt and her cousins, who mistreat her. She is then sent to Lowood boarding school where she receives an education which, eight years later, allows her to find a job as a governess at Thornfield house with the mysterious Mr Rochester. Jane falls in love with the rich and tempestuous property owner, who, seduced by the young woman’s independence and clear-sightedness, asks her to marry him. However this man is hiding a terrible secret.
