Dagenham, 1968. Rita O’Grady est le chef de file d’un mouvement d’ouvrières dans une usine de voitures, qui revendique l’égalité des salaires entre hommes et femmes. Avec courage et dignité, ces femmes vont mener un dur combat, qui conduira à l’avènement de la loi sur la parité salariale.
Le film est tiré d’un fait réel, qui a largement contribué à l’avancée des droits des femmes au Royaume-Uni durant le dernier quart du XXe siècle. Une pléiade de célébrités outre-manche font de ce film, grand gagnant du Festival de Dinard, un véritable régal. On y retrouve entre autres Sally Hawkins, l’héroïne de Be Happy de Mike Leigh ! (Univerciné cinéma britannique Nantes 2008).

Dagenham, 1968. Rita O’Grady is the leader of a female workers’ movement in a car factory which demands equal wages between men and women. With courage and dignity, these women lead a tough battle which brought about the accession of the law on equal pay. The French title refers to an incident which occurred during the female workers’ protests, when part of the banner, “We want sexual equality” was lost.
The film is based on real life events which contributed greatly to the advances in Women’s Rights in Great Britain over the last quarter of the twentieth century. This star-studded film with actors from across the Channel was a big winner at the Dinard Film Festival, a real delight. In it, we rediscover Sally Hawkins amongst others, the heroine of Happy-Go-Lucky by Mike Leigh (Nantes British Film Festival 2008).
