Premier film du fils de Ken Loach, Oranges & Sunshine s’inspire d’une l’histoire vraie, celle de Margaret Humphreys, assistante sociale à Nottingham dans les années 80. Elle enquête sur la déportation de plus d’un million d’enfants britanniques de l’assistance publique en direction de l’Australie entre 1930 et 1970. Elle se rend sur place, rencontre ces enfants devenus adultes, à qui l’on avait promis « des oranges et du soleil » et tente de réunir des familles en rendant public ce scandale. Un beau film prometteur, qui ne laisse pas insensible.
Le film a été présenté au festival de Dinard en octobre dernier.

This first film by Jim Loach (Ken Loach’s son), Oranges and Sunshine, is inspired by the true story of Margaret Humphreys, a social worker in Nottingham during the eighties. She investigates the deportation of over a million British children in care to Australia between 1930 and 1970. She goes to Australia herself, where she meets the children who have now become adults and who had been promised “oranges and sunshine”, in an attempt to reunite families by making this scandal public. A beautiful and promising film, which will leave no-one unmoved.
The film was shown at the Dinard festival in October.
