This film tells the story of the last twenty-five years in the life of the great 19th-century English painter, Turner. It deals with his troubled relationships with his family, his commissioners, the Royal Academy, not to mention Queen Victoria, who is “not amused” by the experimental style of this contradictory and complex artist. This portrait of an extraordinary creative mind combines comedy and tragedy, revealing Mike Leigh’s fascination with the “Turner mystery”.
