Il est difficile pour un soldat de métier de reprendre une vie normale au retour d’une guerre éprouvante et interminable. C’est ce que va vivre Suzy, une jeune militaire originaire du Nord Est de l’Angleterre, qui après avoir servi en Iraq rentre au foyer aux côtés de son mari et de sa fille de 8 ans. Hantée par le souvenir des événements qu’elle a vécus et en particulier d’une scène traumatisante dont elle a été témoin sur le front, elle devient obsédée par la sécurité de sa fille. Ressentant le besoin de la protéger contre une menace qui n’existe que dans son imagination, du moins au départ, son comportement devient vite de plus en plus imprévisible et irrationnel jusqu’à ce qu’elle mette l’existence de sa propre fille en danger.
La performance de la jeune actrice Joanne Froggatt est époustouflante. Brian Welsh, qui à l’âge de trente ans a déjà une solide expérience du cinéma, signe là un très beau film, que nous ne sommes pas prêts d’oublier.

It is difficult for a soldier to return to normal everyday life after having experienced the gruelling and ceaseless demands of war. This is exactly what Suzy, a young military officer from the North East of England, must do after having served in Iraq when she returns home to her husband and eight-year-old daughter. Haunted by the memories of events she witnessed, particularly a traumatic scene on the front line, she becomes obsessed with her daughter’s safety. Feeling the need to protect her from a threat that exists only within her imagination, at least in the beginning, her behaviour quickly becomes increasingly unpredictable and irrational, to the point where she puts her own daughter’s life in jeopardy.
The performance from young actress Joanne Froggatt is hugely impressive. Brian Welsh, who at the age of thirty already has a solid background in cinema, brings us a very striking film that we will never forget.
