Nier un passé trouble, cacher une facette de son identité, chercher une vérité restée longtemps opaque ou révéler au grand jour une histoire confidentielle… La sélection comprend 17 films, dont 8 inédits. Du drame social, reflet d’une jeunesse perdue, violente, parfois déracinée (Sixteen, The Knife that Killed Me, Frail, Leave to Remain), à la comédie d’un humour noir très britannique (Whoops), en passant par un documentaire jubilatoire (Muse of Fire) et la romance intimiste (My Accomplice, Delicious), les films satisferont les goûts d’un public curieux de découvrir à quoi ressemble le cinéma britannique d’aujourd’hui. Toutes ces images nuancées renvoient à de multiples aspects d’une société complexe et multiculturelle. Les spectateurs verront 3 films de répertoire (Comrades de Bill Douglas, A Hard Day’s Night et The Secret Garden dans le cadre de Nantado). Starred Up (Les poings contre les murs), sortie récente, mérite sa place dans la sélection en raison de la force de son sujet. Le dernier bijou de Tomm Moore, Song of the Sea (le Chant de la Mer), enchantera le jeune public.
Pour finir, 4 avant-premières alléchantes, The Riot Club, Snow in Paradise, 20,000 Days on Earth, portrait de Nick Cave, et le dernier John Boorman, Queen and Country.

Denying a troubled past, hiding a facet of one’s personality, searching for a truth long kept hidden or revealing a confidential story… Univerciné’s selection of British films is composed of 17 movies, of which 8 are not yet distributed in France. From social drama, reflections of lost, violent, fragile and sometimes uprooted youth (Sixteen, The Knife that Killed Me, Frail, Leave to Remain) to typical British black humour (Whoops) to an exhilarating Shakespearean documentary (The Muse of Fire) and to intimate romance (My Accomplice, Delicious), the wide range of films showcased this year are sure to satisfy an audience curious about British Cinema today, and the colourful vision it reflects of the multiple aspects of such a complex and multicultural society. The audience will have the opportunity to see 3 classics (Comrades by Bill Douglas, Hard Day’s Night and The Secret Garden, as part of the Nantado initiative). The recently released Starred Up has earned its place in this selection thanks to its hard-hitting subject-matter, and Tom Moore’s delightful Song of the Sea will surely enchant its targeted young audience.
Finally the audience will have the privilege of seeing 4 long-awaited previews; The Riot Club, Snow in Paradise, 20,000 Days on Earth, a portrayal of famous singer Nick Cave, as well as John Boorman’s latest film Queen and Country which will be the closing film of the Festival.
